After publishing several EPs both on the label of Carl Craig, Planet E, and on his own label Dirt Tech Reck, the North American producer Waajeed releases his first solo album, 'From The Dirt'. His career has been influenced by his city, Detroit. There he grew up listening to both hip hop and soul as well as techno and electro, something that makes his productions always try to find a middle ground between all these genres.
He co-founded the hip hop group Slum Village with the late J Dilla, has two labels (Bling47 and DIRT TECH RECK) and he has also been the front man of the Platinum Pied Pipers soul group as well as been seen playing in the Panorama Bar in Berlin and into the studio with Theo Parrish with whom he has recorded several albums. This varied career is seen in From The Dirt, an album in which funk, soul, house and techno appear in equal parts along the ten themes that compose it. "The bass lines are compensated with sparkling melodies and sincere lyrics, while the percussion takes you constantly forward," they explain in the press release. "Growing up in Detroit, I spent Monday through Thursday in the studio with Dilla and Slum Village." On Friday and Saturday nights we had fun all night with Theo Parrish and on Sunday morning I went to church with my pastor. This is what I dream about, this is the sound of Detroit, this is From The Dirt."
