2017 has been an incredible year for Berlin’s psychedelic pop craftswoman Mary Ocher. It began with the release of her all-encompassing fifth studio album ‘The West Against The People’ - a darkly enticing composition exploring identity and society in times of confusion. Ocher's own culturally diverse background, political stance and radical lifestyle choices have contributed to much of the interest in her work and sense of adventure, in life as well as art.
Last week she released a further trove of songs on 10” ‘Faust Studio Sessions and Other Recordings” - a collaborative release between Mary, her label Klangbad and the Swedish imprint Singasong Fighter. The release can be streamed in full over on The Wire. It’s another astonishingly wide-ranging work from a powerful artist, musician and songwriter.
Much of the year has been spent on tour with her solo show - taking in over 50 cities - from Glasgow to Tel Aviv. She will now close the year with a mini-tour with her full band - Mary Ocher + Your Government - together with her drummer duo. The final dates take place in Leipzig, St. Vith and Berlin in December.
